22 September | A Long Expected Party - The Old Forest
Gandalf tells Frodo Gollum’s story. Gollum was known as Sméagol originally, related to the Stoors hobbits. One day Sméagol was with Déagol, who found the Ring in the river. Sméagol murders his friend and takes the Ring. Over time, he wandered into the Misty Mountains, where he stayed hidden away from the sun. He’s called Gollum because of the sound he makes in his throat.
After Bilbo took the Ring from Gollum, Gollum left the mountain to stalk Bilbo and get the Ring back. Along the way, he’s drawn into Mordor, where torture made him tell Sauron’s servants about Bilbo and where the Ring is.
